Clod Ensemble is a winner of the Times Higher Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts.
As a leading composer on the British stage scene, Paul Clark has written dozens of critically acclaimed scores for theatre, dance and opera in the UK and internationally, including productions at The National Theatre, London; The Shed and the Lincoln Center, New York; and Vienna Burgtheater. He has written music for film and TV and with a hugely diverse range of musicians from Manchester Camerata, the Welsh National Opera and Renée Fleming, to Dangermouse and Mark E Smith (The Fall).
For over 15 years, Paul has worked closely with music teachers at secondary state schools to deliver composition masterclasses to Music students in state schools, through Clod Ensemble’s Living Room Music programme. The programme culminates with professional musicians visiting the schools to rehearse, record and perform GCSE and A-Level Music students’ pieces. Participating students have consistently achieved remarkable results, and the average composition score in 2018-19 was 73% (grade A).
“These are the best results in composition I have ever had the good fortune to open in my 10 years at City and Islington, and in my 20 years of teaching A Level Music.”
Jack Davies, Head of Music at City and Islington College
